DBVPG is an International Depositary Authority (IDA) under the Budapest Treaty (currently there are 37 IDAs worldwide and only two in Italy) and as such can accept the deposit of yeast and yeast-like fungi (with the exception of those having properties that may be dangerous to human health) for patent purposes. Deposit at DBVPG satisfies the requirements of the Budapest Treaty in that a single strain deposited in any IDA meets the requirements of patent offices in all states of the Treaty and also of a number of international organizations such as the European Patent Office (EPO).
Details on the procedures for deposition of patent strains are listed in the WIPO "Guide to the deposit of microorganisms under the Budapest Treaty". Copies of these instructions can be obtained from DBVPG upon request.
